Where Loranne Stands

Responsible Investments

Hard-working Floridians are fed up with their tax dollars being wasted on short-sighted programs that are inefficient, unnecessary or ineffective.  That’s why Loranne Ausley is determined to make sure that our tax dollars are protected and that our money is invested responsibly.

Loranne has spent her time in public service fighting to ensure that our money is invested responsibly.  She has fought for policies that make a difference for everyday Floridians — both today and in the long haul.

“Responsible investing means that we put your dollars to work for our future — in our children, in our families and in our local communities in ways that pay dividends for years to come.”

“Responsible investing means making the tough choices and saying ‘no’ to the short term fixes and feel-good solutions that waste taxpayer dollars and hurt real Floridians.”

Helping Get Floridians Back to Work

As our state’s top financial officer, Loranne will work to help small business put real Floridians back to work.  Whether in the competitive bid process, outsourcing or privatizing, her priorities have been and always will be standing up for Floridians and putting Florida citizens back to work.  Loranne’s career has been focused on ensuring that our state makes wise investments in the things that matter now and in the long run.

“I can think of no higher priority than helping Florida business put people back to work and making truly responsible investments in our state’s future.”

Taking Your Side

The battles in Tallahassee are too often won by the special interests and high-priced lobbyists who don’t care about the needs of real people.  Loranne knows that you need a voice, someone who will truly take your side.   When special interests want to hijack state dollars for their needs or their pet projects, she knows what it takes to stand up and say “no”.

As CFO, Loranne will take your side against insurance companies who want to charge unfair rates, against credit companies who gouge Florida’s consumers and against finance firms who threaten your hard-earned retirement benefits.

Fiscal Responsibility and Public Accountability.

Florida is in a financial mess and Florida lawmakers haven’t had the courage to make the same tough financial decisions families are making.  Reckless spending and wasteful programs have put our state at risk.  Our state’s current leaders have squandered away tax dollars on short-term fixes that did nothing to improve our education system or build an economy that could sustain us through these tough times.

We have to do things differently.

That’s why Loranne will fight for a state budget that focuses on helping put people back to work, makes responsible investments in our future and stops lining the pockets of the special interests who care nothing about our future.

Transparency

Loranne knows that government in the sunshine is more than just a good idea; it is one of the most effective ways to ensure honesty, accountability and responsibility.  Too many times, backroom deals are the worst deals for taxpayers and she has worked throughout her career to keep the public’s business open to public scrutiny.

She will build on CFO Alex Sink’s successful efforts to eliminate  “no-bid” contracts and sweetheart deals with politically connected vendors.

Keeping Jobs In the State

Long before it was the popular thing to do, Loranne fought to keep our jobs here in our state.  Too often, big companies hire high-priced lobbyists to move our jobs out of state or overseas.  In almost every case, these outsourced jobs lead to lower quality and less efficiency than hiring real Floridians to do the work.  Her efforts to take on leadership and fight to keep jobs in our state are well-known and well-documented.

“We should all be angry to know that we are sending jobs out of state or overseas when Floridians need the work and can do a better job.”

No Bid…No Deal

Loranne knows that an open and competitive bid process is one of the best ways to ensure that tax dollars are spent wisely.  No bid contracts to out-of-state or overseas corporations are too often the kinds of deals that hurt taxpayers.  She will fight to ensure that all deals are fair, with an eye towards keeping jobs right here at home.

Putting Your Dollars to Work for You

Loranne voted against irresponsible budgets many times while she was in the Legislature.  She understands that it is never acceptable for our leaders to make fiscally irresponsible decisions that ignore long term investments and raid trust funds that were promised to the people of Florida.

Loranne has also spoken out against the use of stimulus dollars to artificially hide huge gaps in the state budget.  Instead, those funds should be used to help small businesses create jobs that are critical to Florida’s economic health.  And, that’s why Loranne will use her position as a cabinet member and the CFO of our state to ensure that your dollars are invested wisely and put back into our struggling economy.

“With record levels of unemployment, helping attract and create jobs should be our highest priority and our smartest investment.”

Fair Banking Practices

Too many dollars that were used to bail out the big banks never made their way down to working families.  As CFO, Loranne will fight to ensure that banks are helping small businesses right here in Florida put people back to work.  For banks that seek a quick buck with risky overseas investments and trading schemes, Loranne will work to enforce every measure available to our state’s CFO to hold them accountable.

“We didn’t bail out big banks so they could pay exorbitant bonuses.  We need to put that money to work for Florida.”

Holding Insurers Accountable

Loranne knows that a hurricane shouldn’t be a financial windfall for insurers or an excuse to unfairly raise rates.  As the Chair of a $300 million corporation that provides insurance for Florida’s children, she knows that insurance should be a safety net and not a profit haven for swindlers.  Fair market practices and tough regulation go hand in hand to ensure a healthy insurance market with insurers who are responsive to the people of this state.

“We need to get tough on insurers who try to game the system, while supporting those who serve Floridians well.  As someone who heads up a statewide effort to make sure our children have affordable health insurance, I know the difference.  As your CFO I will hold insurance companies accountable for denying coverage or increasing rates and ensure fairness for everyone.”
